KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau urged Sabahans to approach the coming 17th State Election with political maturity, stressing that stability and capable leadership are key to investor confidence and business growth.
He commended the current State Government for completing a full five-year term despite challenges, calling it a sign of political maturity that fostered economic stability.
Lau, who is also Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad Executive Director, said frequent power changes in the past had hurt investor confidence and Sabah’s image.
“Change should only happen for good reasons such as integrity or character issues,” he said.
He cautioned against politically motivated instability, urging all sides to focus on improving the business ecosystem, infrastructure and SME support instead.
Lau also encouraged voters to judge candidates by their performance and service rather than party loyalty or emotions.
“Politics in Sabah must be corporatised. Capable leaders with integrity and results should earn the mandate,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the current administration’s achievements and called for unity and pragmatic cooperation among all stakeholders to build a stable, prosperous Sabah.
