Law and the City ending explained: Your burning questions answered

Does Ju-hyeong leave the Hyung-min Law Group?

Ahn Ju-hyeong (played by Lee Jong-suk) is initially introduced to viewers as the buttoned-up, pragmatic lawyer working for Hyung-min Law Firm. However, when his boss ordered him to abandon Mr Park’s case to protect the firm’s financial interests, it forced him to confront the compromises he had made before. He recounts all the times when profit outweighed principles. After Man-su’s death, his conscience prevents him from betraying Mr Park.

So, instead of quietly walking away, he takes a stand, reopening the case on his own terms. This time, it’s not just about winning for Mr Park; it’s about reclaiming his dignity and redefining what success means to him.

By the end of the series, we meet a Ju-hyeong who is braver, more principled, and ready to bet on himself.

Do Ahn Ju-hyeong and Kang Hui-ji get their happy ending?

For those hoping for a straightforward romantic ending between Ahn Ju-hyeong and Kang Hui-ji’s (played by Mun Ka-young), the drama leaves things somewhat ambiguous.

While Ju-hyeong leaves Hyung-min Law Group and starts his own practice, Hui-ji quits the firm to work as a public defender. Although they shared opposing ideologies initially, their similar paths indicate how they influenced each other forever.

Law and the City ending explained: What happens to members of the Associate Lawyers Avengers?

Each member of the Associate Lawyers Avengers takes a different path.

In the difficult field of public defence, Kang Hui-ji’s empathy serves as her compass. Meanwhile, after declining to defend a client whose behaviour went against his moral principles, Cho Chang-won goes on to become a prosecutor.

After a chance encounter with Kim Ryu-jin, Ha Sang-gi returns to academia to pursue a PhD, helping a professor and perhaps beginning a romantic relationship. On the other hand, Bae Mun-jeong decides to take maternity leave, remain with the company she loves, and locate a reliable temporary successor.

Additionally, in the finale of Law and the City, all five members of the Associate Lawyers Avengers reunite over their favourite dinner place. Their clinking of chopsticks, their casual banter and the reassurance that certain relationships endure through all the ups and downs make for a touching yet impactful ending of the show.
