Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, stood firm in her announcement today, asserting that there are no intentions to amend the current anti-party hopping law. In her capacity as the law and institutional reform minister, she underscored the government's unwavering commitment to upholding existing laws and ensuring the paramount need for political stability in the country.

Addressing concerns about potential loopholes in the law enacted back in October 2022 under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, Azalina posed a critical question about the motives driving the call for amendments. She stressed that the current government's responsibility lies in the robust enforcement of laws as they exist, rather than concealing any perceived loopholes.

The minister further emphasized the crucial importance of asserting that parliamentary seats belong to political parties rather than individual Members of Parliament. She reiterated that the government's immediate focus is on implementing and strictly enforcing the laws currently in place. Speaking to reporters at the launch of the "Justice on Wheels" and mobile court program in Kampung Madsiang, she made it clear that preventing power struggles within the political landscape and ensuring a stable governance framework are the primary objectives.

Acknowledging the public's weariness with political power dynamics, Azalina highlighted the collective desire for stability among the citizens. In response to calls for a review of the Anti-Party Hopping Act, notably from opposition leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, she maintained that the government's overarching goal is to address the people's yearning for stability amidst the ongoing political landscape. Emphasizing the alignment of the government's focus with the Madani concept, she reiterated the commitment to economic development as a strategic approach to fostering stability and prosperity, thereby meeting the aspirations of the Malaysian people. The government aims to steer the nation toward a future marked by enduring stability and continued progress.
