My wife do Plogging regularly on Sundays at Bukit Kiara Federal Park (park) and Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara (hill) and have been doing so for many years. We do this because we are in the green outdoors with fresh and clean air and working for a cleaner park and hill .

Alas, we are always almost disappointed and astounded how much rubbish and recyclable we pick up but we carry on. We had always hoped when people see us Plogging, they might just think before littering and stop.

Since mid-December 2025 we had been away and last Sunday 25 January was our first day back doing PLAGOR at the park and hill.

Meanwhile the anti-littering law has been active since 1 January 2026 with a RM2,000 fine and 12 hours of community service.

And it made news on that day when some litter bugs in Kuala Lumpur were hauled up.

However, sadly some visitors to this park and hill have no fear of this litter law. We collected 1.55kg rubbish and 0.60kg recyclables at the Park. From the hill, 2kg rubbish and an astonishing 4 kg recyclables.

Presumably, most of these litter bugs are not ignorant of the law since news of litter bugs caught and penalized frequently make the news even now.

Perhaps what makes them continue their filthy habit is they have no fear of being caught or they are just blatantly irresponsible and lazy.

The absence of enforcement by authorities to enforce the law could be a major reason the litter bugs carry on as usual. And upright citizens may also be wary or not know how to report littering.

The authorities must put out some signs on the littering law and its penalties . Information on how members of the public can report the litter bugs must also be on the signs.

Enforcement officers must be there sporadically to enforce and catch these litter bugs red-handed and penalize them with a fine and of course cleaning up the park or hill.

If this happens, we can just hike and enjoy the park and hill like everyone else. Ahh, a wish for this year.

Let's hope the authorities and model citizens can make this wish come true for all to enjoy a clean and tidy park and hill.
