KUALA LUMPUR — Lawyers representing M Indira Gandhi have questioned the government’s consistency in enforcing its Budi95 fuel subsidy scheme, pointing out that her former husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah remains eligible despite being wanted by police.

In a joint statement, Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh said Riduan has continued to be eligible for subsidised RON95 fuel under Budi95 since at least November 2025, despite being the subject of an arrest warrant since 2018 for failing to comply with court orders to return his daughter, Prasana Diksa, to Indira.

The lawyers contrasted this with the government’s recent swift action in blocking the MyKad of an individual caught in a viral video filling large quantities of subsidised fuel into containers in Johor, as reported in connection with enforcement under the Budi95 initiative.

“The comparison is unavoidable. The government cannot, on the one hand, demonstrate immediate administrative enforcement in relation to subsidy controls, and on the other, allow a situation to persist in which a wanted individual remains within the subsidy system," they said.

They added that a check of the Budi95 system earlier today found Riduan’s account was still active, raising questions about gaps in enforcement despite the authorities’ ability to act quickly through MyKad-linked controls.

The issue had previously been raised in court, where the Ipoh High Court was informed of Riduan’s continued access to government aid, including Budi95 and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah benefits.

In November, the High Court ordered police to intensify efforts to locate Riduan, who has been on the run since taking his youngest daughter in 2009 following a unilateral conversion and custody dispute.

The Federal Court in 2018 had ruled the children’s conversions to Islam null and void, and directed the Inspector-General of police to arrest Riduan for defying court orders. — March 24, 2026
