LABUAN: The Labuan Chamber of Commerce (LCC) has rejected claims downplaying the contributions of former Labuan Corporation chairman Tan Sri Anifah Aman, describing such narratives as unfair and misleading.
LCC chairman Daniel Doughty (pic) said Anifah had demonstrated clear leadership during his tenure by securing a RM300 million allocation to address the island’s chronic water shortages, a feat no one else had achieved.
He added that Anifah consistently pressed for Labuan’s fair share of revenue, calling for 30 to 40 per cent of the RM2.4 billion generated annually from the island to be reinvested locally rather than controlled solely by Putrajaya.
According to Doughty, Anifah also strongly advocated for key infrastructure projects, including the Labuan bridge, and pushed to end long-standing delays such as the demolition of the abandoned Labuan Hotel, even though decision-making was often centralised in the federal capital.
Doughty stressed that leadership should be measured by tangible contributions and the courage to speak up for Labuan’s interests, and that dismissing Anifah’s record as inaction was not only inaccurate but harmful to the island’s future.
