Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Likas, Api-Api and Luyang Divisions unanimously adopted three resolutions calling for greater women’s representation in party leadership and the strengthening of Sabah’s long-term energy infrastructure.
The resolutions were passed during the Joint Divisional Conference, attended by more than 200 members and officiated by LDP President Datuk Chin Su Phin, with Deputy President Datuk Yong Wui Chung serving as Speaker.
The first resolution, proposed by the Likas Division, called for the gradual implementation of at least 40pc women’s participation in leadership and decision-making positions within the party.
The resolution also supports providing more capable and committed women with equal opportunities to contribute and lead, while strengthening women’s leadership development programmes and encouraging greater participation by young women in party affairs, community service and public affairs.
Likas Division Chairperson Glenna Wong said capable, visionary and dedicated women deserve equal opportunities to contribute.
“A political party cannot progress without women’s participation, just as society cannot advance without women’s contributions,” she said.
The second and third resolutions, proposed by the Api-Api Division, urged the implementation of Phase Two of the Sabah Southern Transmission Line Project, comprising a 275kV transmission line from Padas to Tawau, and the construction of a 1,000MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) natural gas power plant along Sabah’s west coast.
The conference said natural gas should serve as a transitional energy source and that both projects are essential to strengthen Sabah’s electricity infrastructure in preparation for artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and strategic industries requiring a reliable power supply.
Api-Api Division Chairman Sim Fui said Sabah must remain united and support local political forces to strengthen the State’s position and influence in national politics.
“While the future remains uncertain, one thing is clear — Sabah must first unite in order to become a stronger political force,” he said.
He said stronger political leverage would enable Sabah to pursue the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), secure fairer development allocations and improve water, electricity and road infrastructure, while attracting greater investments and creating better education, healthcare and employment opportunities.
Luyang Division Chairman Simon Chin said the division would continue strengthening its grassroots network and encourage members to participate actively in community service.
“Our role is to serve as the bridge between the Government and the people — bringing the people’s voices to the Government while ensuring government services reach the community,” he said.
The conference also witnessed a membership induction ceremony where a group of professionals led by Dr Sylvia Lim Sze Wei formally submitted their membership applications after embracing the party’s political ideals and policy direction.
The applications were presented to the LDP Secretary-General in the presence of the LDP President and other party leaders, symbolising the new members’ commitment to serving the people and contributing to Sabah through the party.
