KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has urged the Malaysian government to reassess its decision to accept 15 Palestinian fighters recently released by Israel, citing national security and public concern.

LDP President Datuk Chin Su Phin questioned why Malaysia is stepping in when other Middle Eastern nations have not accepted them.

He called for full transparency on their backgrounds, the conditions of their release, and security measures in place.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan earlier defended the move, stating it was part of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

However, critics, including lawyer Siti Kasim, have raised concerns over potential security risks.

Chin emphasized the need for a parliamentary review and thorough background checks before allowing their resettlement, warning against decisions based on sentiment rather than national interest.
