DreamWorks Animation has released the first official trailer for the Filipino-themed animated film Forgotten Island, featuring legendary actress-singer Lea Salonga as the movie's main antagonist.
The animated adventure stars Liza Soberano and H.E.R. as childhood best friends Raissa and Jo, who are spending their final night together before Raissa moves to America for college.
Fearing the loss of their friendship, Jo tries to convince Raissa to stay. However, a magical portal suddenly opens and transports them to Nakali, a mystical island inhabited by creatures inspired by Filipino folklore.
The pair are joined by a weredog named Raww, voiced by Dave Franco, as they search for a way back home. Along the way, they encounter the dreaded Manananggal, voiced by Lea Salonga.
In the film, the Manananggal is described as the most feared monster in Nakali. The creature feeds on memories and relentlessly stalks the heroines, particularly Raissa.
Salonga has lent her voice to several animated projects throughout her career. She served as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan and its sequel, Mulan II. She also voiced Yasuko Kusakabe in the English dub of My Neighbor Totoro and most recently provided the singing voice for Celine in the Netflix animated feature KPop Demon Hunters.
Forgotten Island is set to arrive in theaters on Sept. 25.
