Leaders perform Aidiladha prayers nationwide, emphasise unity and sacrifice

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim performed the Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Putra on Saturday morning, joining around 20,000 congregants in marking the significant Islamic occasion.

He arrived at 7.56am accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and was welcomed by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr Zulkifli Hasan, before proceeding to the main prayer hall.

The prayers were led by Masjid Putra’s Grand Imam, Muhamad Zakuwa Rodzali. Anwar also listened to the Aidiladha sermon titled "Korban dan Semangat Kebersamaan" (Sacrifice and the Spirit of Solidarity), which emphasised the importance of sacrifice in fostering compassion, generosity, and social awareness.

Following the sermon, the Prime Minister greeted congregants at the mosque.

In Sarawak, over 3,000 worshippers performed the Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek Petra Jaya in Kuching, joined by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar; Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; and Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Tun Wan Junaidi arrived at 8.00am, with Abang Johari and Fadillah arriving earlier at 7.45am and 7.30am respectively.

Also in attendance were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and other key state leaders.

The congregational prayer was led by State Grand Imam, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, who also delivered a sermon titled "Meraih Keimanan, Meningkatkan Pengorbanan" (Strengthening Faith Through Greater Sacrifice).

Following prayers, Tun Wan Junaidi, Abang Johari, and Fadillah participated in the Majlis Korban Perdana at the mosque grounds, where three cows were slaughtered and the meat distributed to 100 asnaf (eligible recipients) in the Kuching area.

In Sabah, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Haji Noor, Kampung Serusup, Tuaran, alongside over 1,000 congregants.

Arriving at 6.54am, Hajiji joined the prayer led by Imam Abdul Basit Salleh, who also delivered a sermon titled "Pengorbanan: Tiada kejayaan semanis madu tanpa pengorbanan sepahit hempedu"(Sacrifice: No Sweet Success Without Bitter Struggle).

After prayers concluded at 8.26am, Hajiji greeted attendees before proceeding to the Tuaran District Police Headquarters (IPD) to carry out the qurban rites.

The slaughtering of sacrificial animals was conducted by police officers, with the meat distributed to IPD staff and asnaf families in the surrounding area. - June 7, 2025
