Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang has been reinstated as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), officially commencing his duties today. The MoHE released a statement announcing Zaini's return to the role, and he was warmly received by key officials within the ministry.

Upon assuming his responsibilities, Zaini received a comprehensive briefing on MoHE's accomplishments, strategic directions, and operational procedures. Additionally, he held a meeting with Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir to report for duty and receive instructions for the upcoming term.

This marks Zaini's second tenure as the Secretary-General of MoHE, having previously held the position from 2013 to 2016. His wealth of experience and familiarity with the ministry's operations positions him well for a seamless transition into his renewed role.

Zaini, 59, boasts an extensive career in various ministries, having served as the Secretary-General in the Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Environment and Water, and, most recently, the Ministry of Health before his current appointment. His diverse experience across different sectors contributes to his well-rounded perspective and understanding of the intricacies of governmental operations.

Notably, Zaini holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Newcastle University, showcasing his expertise in water and waste treatment. His academic background aligns with the critical environmental considerations often addressed within the higher education sector.

In addition to his government service, Zaini has a significant history in academia, having served as the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 2008 to 2013. His leadership in the academic realm provides him with insights into the challenges and opportunities facing higher education institutions.

As Zaini embarks on his renewed term as MoHE Secretary-General, his leadership is anticipated to contribute to the continued advancement and strategic development of higher education in Malaysia. The collaborative efforts between Zaini and Minister Zambry Abd Kadir will play a crucial role in shaping the trajectory of the ministry's initiatives, ensuring a focus on academic excellence, research, and the holistic growth of the higher education sector.

The reinstatement of Zaini Ujang signifies a strategic decision to leverage his experience and knowledge for the benefit of the Ministry of Higher Education, reinforcing the commitment to excellence and innovation in Malaysia's higher education landscape.
