This is the third article on how Malaysia can leapfrog in its holistic development and advancement. The focus is on practicality.

To be competitive, Malaysia needs to score high in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education.

A good indicator of STEM proficiency is the PISA score, which focuses on reading, mathematics, and science proficiency.

Unfortunately, in the 2018 PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), Malaysia ranked 56 among the 78 countries listed (OECD, 2019).

Clearly, something needs to be done to accelerate STEM’s progress. Since English is the global language of science and commerce, focusing on this alone would raise others as a rising tide lifts all boats. Thus, language mastery will improve learning in all subjects.

Triple Language Learning (English, Malay, Mandarin)

Malaysia enjoys the distinct advantage of having a multiple-language society. Most people can converse fluently in at least two languages. But could we set a target of our children being able to speak English, Malay and Mandarin and read the newspapers by age six?

Grace Chow, who founded ACTIVBOT™, answered with a resounding YES!

Her confidence stems from her proven track record of training young children to speak three languages and being able to read the newspaper in English by age six. An impressive feat indeed!

Even more impresive is that some of them are special needs, children. Many of the other children were weaned off from their smartphone addiction too.

The Activbot System

Grace spent 15 years researching on her AI (Artificial Intelligence) System, which she named ACTIVBOT. She did this by testing her ideas through her kindergarten, called ”Tadika Aktif.

Her ACTIVBOT system is a hybrid, a blend of traditional learning enhanced by technology, especially AI. It makes learning fun for both the parents and their children.

The following proven scientific principles were adopted:

  • Multiple Intelligence
  • Brain-based Learning
  • Multi-sensory learning
  • 2000 days of learning
  • Khan Academy for online learning

The features of ACTIVBOT learning include:

  • Jolly Phonics
  • Flashcards
  • Interactive Reading
  • AI pen
  • Fun-dancing and talking robot
  • STEM through Games

Both the parents and their children are jubilant. Some of her graduates are now studying science and medical degree courses at local universities.

They included children who struggled with reading before achieving success at Tadika Aktif. The parents were happy because their children had cultivated a love of learning. Most of the older pre-school children were able to study on their own after a few guidance lessons.

Grace has even introduced this system to charity organizations like The Salvation Army.

She is dedicated to promoting this system to the B40 Group.

You may visit Grace on 27 & 28 May at the MVEC (Mid-Valley Exhibition Centre) from 11.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Conclusion

It is admirable that this system was the creation of a Malaysian entrepreneur. She would be invaluable to equipping Malaysia with the technology to leapfrog language skills.

Grace’s Activbot system attracted wide attention, especially in Malaysia, Singapore, and other ASEAN countries.

She has been invited to speak at international events to improve pre-school learning.

Grace has also won several awards and has been featured in some children-learning magazines.

Grace is ready to help Malaysia leapfrog language learning and looking for collaborators and sponsors in her quest to bring about a more literate and technology-savvy Malaysia. She is already adapting her system to STEM learning.
