Israel continued to launch attacks on Lebanon on Monday despite escalating hostilities with Iran.

The Israeli Air Force bombed several locations in southern Lebanon, the state news agency NNA reported.

At least four people were killed near the city of Nabatiyeh, it said, adding Israeli forces were also attacking the city with artillery.

Security sources told dpa the heavy shelling suggests the Israeli army is preparing for an advance on the city.

In addition, Israeli ground forces are advancing in the south, armed with machine guns, according to NNA.

The Hezbollah-affiliated broadcaster Al-Manar also reported new Israeli attacks on about a dozen locations in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army did not immediately comment when asked about the reports.

Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon has a predominantly Shia population and serves as an important economic hub for the region, while also holding symbolic significance.

Israel has repeatedly attacked the city since the 1980s, including during the recent war with Hezbollah in 2024.

About a week ago, the Israeli military ordered residents to evacuate the city immediately, amid speculation that Israeli ground forces could capture it soon.

The Israeli military launched another attack on the suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, prompting Iran to strike Israel for the first time since a fragile ceasefire took effect between Tehran and Washington in April.

Israel responded by launching widespread attacks on Iran on Monday in a serious blow to efforts by US President Donald Trump to end the regional conflict.
