The longer you’re abroad, the more likely you are to miss your homeland, especially the food that is probably unavailable elsewhere. Even if it is, the authenticity of the food might not go well with your tastebuds.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei and his family went to Paris to celebrate the 100-day countdown of the Paris Olympics, which coincided with his son’s 11th birthday. His initial flight back to Malaysia was scheduled for Friday (April 19); however, Chong Wei had to stay there longer than expected.

His flight back was indefinitely delayed and he was stuck in Paris due to the flood in Dubai, the interchange country.

“I was supposed to go back on Friday but Dubai was flooding and our flight couldn’t connect there.”

In an interview with Timesport, Chong Wei said he had tried to find another flight back but couldn’t, as most were cancelled. When stuck in Paris, Chong Wei couldn’t help but express his longing for Malaysian food, which we can all never say no to.

“Stuck in Paris. I miss Nasi Lemak.”

As Malaysians, who wouldn’t when we’re stuck elsewhere for too long without access to Malaysian food?

Earlier this week, the United Arab Emirates recorded its heaviest rainfall which caused flooding in many areas and disrupted many scheduled flights.

Chong Wei added that his flight back to Malaysia had been scheduled for Monday (April 22).
