Leeds United youngster Illan Meslier says he is determined to earn a call-up to the French senior squad.

The Frenchman has almost made 100 Premier League appearances for Leeds, despite only being 22.

He is presently on the periphery of the France squad, but eventually wants that no.1 shirt for Les Bleus.

"Now for 2023, it's to try and be the best for each game, and also to keep clean sheets because that is the target all the time for the goalkeepers," Meslier told NBC Sports.

"If I can go for the first team with the national team it will be perfect, but I know that will depend on my performances for the first team with Leeds United.

"I saw Hugo [Lloris] when he was in Nice and Lyon, and of course I saw him growing up in Tottenham. He is obviously a French legend, and my role model is Manuel Neuer because he's a very complete, modern goalkeeper.

"He has evolved the position of the goalkeeper and won the World Cup in 2014."
