The high-profile matrimonial property dispute involving Puan Sri Kalsom Ismail, the widow of the late Tan Sri Jamaludin Jarjis, has been amicably resolved at the Shariah High Court. The case, which saw Kalsom seeking a claim valued at more than RM2 billion against her four children and mother-in-law, concluded with a confidential settlement agreement.
Representing Aminah Abdullah, Jamaludin's mother, Syarie lawyer Nur Hidayah A Bakar expressed relief over the resolution. "Praise be to God, the involved parties convened for three hours this morning and successfully reached a settlement. The court has recorded and endorsed the terms, but they remain confidential," Nur Hidayah stated, speaking to reporters following the private proceedings before Syarie judge Abu Suffian Abu Yaziz.
Kalsom, aged 68, was represented by Syarie lawyer Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar in the case. The claim, filed in October 2018, encompassed 20 properties spread across Malaysia and Mecca, alongside several company stakes.
The late Tan Sri Jamaludin Jarjis, a prominent figure in Malaysian politics and business, served as the Malaysian Ambassador to the United States. His untimely death on April 4, 2015, in a tragic helicopter crash left a significant void. The helicopter, which was traveling from Pekan, Pahang to Kuala Lumpur, met with disaster at Kampung Sungai Pening, Semenyih, Selangor, at approximately 4.55 pm.
The crash resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including the pilot, Captain Clifford William Fournier; Datuk Seri Azlin Alias, who was the private secretary to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak; businessman Datuk Tan Huat Seang; Jamaludin’s aide, Razakan Seran; and a woman identified as Aidana Baizieva.
The case attracted considerable attention due to the substantial value of the matrimonial assets in dispute and the prominence of the individuals involved. Kalsom's claim brought to light the extensive holdings of Jamaludin, which included high-value properties in prime locations and significant business interests.
Despite the intense public interest, the details of the settlement remain sealed, reflecting the family's desire to handle their matters privately. This resolution marks the end of a long-standing dispute that has been closely watched by both the public and the media.
The amicable settlement demonstrates the importance of family unity and the ability to resolve even the most complex disputes through dialogue and mutual agreement. For Puan Sri Kalsom and her family, this agreement provides a pathway to move forward, preserving the legacy of Tan Sri Jamaludin Jarjis while maintaining family harmony.
The court proceedings, conducted away from the public eye, underscore the sensitivity and personal nature of the case. As the family navigates the aftermath of Jamaludin's passing and the division of his substantial estate, the settlement offers a chance for reconciliation and peace.
