PUTATAN: The State Government through the Sabah Women Affairs Department (Jhewa) has set up a Legal Aid Clinic especially to help women.
State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the legal aid center will provide services related to both syariah and civil cases, as well as the Native Court.
“With this Legal Aid Clinic, women from the lower income group can seek help when facing court battles.
“This includes legal advice and mediation service,” he said during a roadshow on the programme at Putatan.
Shahelmey, who is also Tanjung Keramat Assemblyman, said from January to June 2022 the centre handled a total of 46 cases.
He urged women to take advantage of the programmes organised by JHEWA and the Sabah Women Affairs Council (MPWS).
The roadshow in Putatan is the fourth in a series, which will also be held in five other districts this year.
The roadshow was aimed at educating women on the assistance offered by MPPWS and JHEWS, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the Credit Management Counselling Agency (AKPK).
Also present were MPWS Chairperson Datuk Dr Tarsiah TZ Taman, JHEWS Director Haslina Ismail and Putatan ADO Edward Bungsu.
