In a courtroom drama unfolding in Butterworth, two couples have pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing stolen jewellery belonging to social media influencer Siti Nur Khalieda Yusra Jais, famously known as Kieda Crepe. The case revolves around allegations stemming from a recent gang robbery at Kieda Crepe's residence.
The accused individuals, Nurul Hidayah Mahat (24) and her sister Endang Nur Nabila Suriana (22), along with their respective husbands Ezwan Syafiq Joha (27) and Affizan Abdullah (24), appeared before Judge Noor Aini Yusof to refute the charges brought against them.
According to the prosecution, the defendants are accused of dishonestly retaining several pieces of jewellery purportedly stolen during the robbery. The items in question include a bracelet weighing 28 grams, a "love high polish" pendant necklace weighing 131 grams, a matching pendant bracelet weighing 84.6 grams, and a necklace weighing 4.5 grams, all belonging to Kieda Crepe.
The alleged offence took place on April 25 at a residence in Kampung Aman, Pokok Sena, Kepala Batas, as per the charge under Section 412 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which collectively carries penalties of up to 20 years' imprisonment and fines upon conviction.
During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafiq Nasrullah Saleem Ali opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations. However, defence counsel Ranjit Singh Sandhu pleaded for leniency, highlighting the personal circumstances of the accused.
"Ezwan, a trader earning RM1,200 per month, supports his family, including his wife Hidayah who suffers from chronic diabetes. Endang Nur Nabila Suriana, a homemaker, also deals with chronic diabetes, while her husband Affizan, who earns RM1,500 monthly as a landscaper, suffers from asthma," Ranjit Singh explained.
Judge Noor Aini Yusof subsequently set bail at RM18,000 with one surety each for the defendants. The conditions imposed require them to report fortnightly to the nearest police station, surrender their passports to the court, and refrain from contacting the victim or witnesses throughout the trial.
The case is scheduled for the next mention and document submission on July 19, marking the continuation of a legal battle that has captured public attention due to its connection with a prominent social media figure and the nature of the allegations involved.
