KOTA KINABALU: The legal team representing Zara Qairina Mahathir's mother has urged the organisers of the planned #JusticeForZara 3.0 rally to ensure it is not linked to any political party during the election campaign period.
Counsel Shahlan Jufri said the team appreciates the public’s support but stressed that the inquest is at a critical stage, with key witnesses still giving evidence.
He warned that any large public gathering, particularly one involving protest elements, could be misinterpreted as an attempt to influence the court and undermine confidence in the proceedings.
Shahlan added that the team has identified a peninsula politician currently campaigning in Sabah who allegedly made contemptuous social media remarks, and said legal action would be taken against anyone who compromises the family’s rights or interferes with the judicial process.
He reminded the public that speculative statements or attempts to imply findings before the inquest concludes may constitute sub judice, while appealing for sensitivity.
