Dairy Queen was first founded in Joliet, Illinois in 1940 and today has over 4,100 locations in the United States. Outside the U.S., it currently operates in more than 20 countries. With the largest number of international locations in China, Canada, and Thailand. The fast-food giant recently signed a new agreement to open 187 new restaurants across Asia and the Middle East.

As for Hong Kong, there will be a total of 60 locations, and our neighbouring SAR will also see 12 branches. The expansion has already begun, with a high-profile market debut at Taipei 101 on November 18. The first wave of Dairy Queen openings will start next year, with the full expansion completed over the next decade.

What to expect from Dairy Queen’s Hong Kong debut

Over the years, more and more of American fast-food chains have debuted or held pop-ups in Hong Kong, including Auntie Anne’s and Jamba. Dairy Queen is famed for its gravity-defying treats, as well as snacks like hotdogs, chicken baskets, and juicy burgers. While we’re not entirely sure if every single treat will make it over to Hong Kong, or if it’ll be adjusted to local taste buds, we’re sure the most popular ones will be up for grabs.

So until we hear more about the opening details, you can either cross the border to sample Dairy Queen in China. Or, you can also virtually drool over the Blizzard® Treats.
