Legitimacy of new opposition vehicle clear following strategic party takeover - Hamzah

THE regulatory standing of Parti Wawasan Negara with the Registrar of Societies is entirely secure as the organisation merely underwent a structural name change following a successful administrative takeover.

The political development, initially reported by The Star, was clarified by Gerakan Reset founder Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who dismissed any potential controversies surrounding the legitimacy of the political vehicle.

Hamzah explained that the faction he leads opted to absorb an already existing, fully registered political entity rather than navigating the complex bureaucratic process of founding a new party from the ground up.

“I took over a party, we only changed the name,” Hamzah told reporters concisely after emerging from a high-level meeting of opposition Members of Parliament at the PAS headquarters here on Wednesday.

With the registration technicalities resolved, the opposition alliance directed the entirety of their strategic discussions toward aggressive preparations for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

“As far as we know, a decision has already been made in Johor, so we want to determine how to ensure the victory of our candidates, and the same goes for Negeri Sembilan, he stated regarding the electoral roadmap.

The Larut Member of Parliament noted that the lawmakers present reached a consensus on the absolute necessity of mobilising resources directly to the grassroots level to bolster their electoral prospects.

“Therefore, all discussions required our friends, especially MPs, to go down to the ground and help our candidates, which is what we discussed,” he added.

The meeting, which concluded after nearly two hours of deliberation, saw Hamzah and sixteen other Members of Parliament aligned with Gerakan Reset Malaysia engaging in deep coordination with PAS lawmakers to solidify a unified opposition front. - June 18, 2026
