The teams are in the tunnel and kick-off will commence shortly in the East Midlands. With both teams’ relegation from the Premier League officially confirmed, they will be hoping to give their fans something to cheer about. After announcing his decision to leave the Foxes at the end of the season, legendary striker Jamie Vardy will be hoping to go out with a bang. On the other hand, defeat for Southampton will confirm them finishing bottom of the Premier League this season, in what has been a miserable campaign for the team from the south coast.

Leicester City will be without goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, who is undergoing an operation which will see him miss the rest of the season. Jakub Stolarczyk will replace the Danish international, with the Polish shot-stopper set to earn another opportunity to impress in the league. Facundo Buonanotte will also miss today’s game due to a concussion protocol and will most likely return in the Foxes’ next Premier League fixture. Ricardo Pereira and Bobby De Cordova-Reid also miss out, with James Justin, Oliver Skipp, Jordan Ayew and Kasey McAteer all returning to the starting XI.

Meanwhile, the visitors are coming into this game after suffering late heartbreak against Fulham in last week’s Premier League clash at St Mary’s. The Saints took a deserved lead through Jack Stephens in the 14th minute; however, Fulham responded well and equalised through former Arsenal forward Emile Smith Rowe. Just as the game was heading for a draw, Ryan Sessegnon scored a 92nd-minute winner, sparking wild celebrations from Marco Silva’s men and leaving the already-relegated Saints despondent. With four games remaining in this season’s Premier League, Simon Rusk’s side will be hoping to reward their fans with a win against today’s opponents. However, the Saints have lost their last three league games against today’s home outfit.

Hosts Leicester City return to action after suffering a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Wolves in last week’s Premier League fixture. The relegated Foxes suffered more misery as goals from Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen gave Vitor Pereira’s men a two-goal lead. Jamie Vardy had an opportunity to halve the deficit but saw his 72nd minute penalty well saved by Jose Sa. That proved costly as Rodrigo Gomes scored a third goal for Wolves, which condemned the 2015-16 Premier League champions to their 24th league defeat of the season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side have not won in the league since 26th January 2025 - a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur. There is some optimism for Leicester, as they will be facing a Southampton team they have already defeated this season – a 3-2 win at St Mary’s – with the Foxes looking to complete a Premier League double over the Saints for the first time since 1999-00.
