Kota Kinabalu: The first-ever report on Demographic and Socioeconomic Changes in Sabah revealed that only 49.1 per cent of married women participate in the workforce compared to a significantly higher 96.8 per cent for married men.
The report’s launch at a Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, recently, was a collaborative effort between the United Nations Population Fund Malaysia (UNPFM), Universiti Malaya and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
Speaking on gender equity, State Minister of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Datuk James Ratib said ignoring women as an integral part of society comes at the cost of our own collective peril.
“Women make up half the population of our state, and yet there are still significant gender gaps within the workforce.
