KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he will leave it to his legal advisers to handle the defamation suit, which was filed against him by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.
In a brief statement, Muhyiddin acknowledged that he had received the notice of demand from Anwar’s legal team.
“Since Anwar has chosen to bring this matter to court, therefore I will leave it to my lawyer to handle this case according to the law,” said the Pagoh MP.
Anwar filed the defamation suit against Muhyiddin over the latter’s remark that painted him as unreliable, untruthful, unethical, unprincipled, a corrupt person, a hypocrite, of ill repute, and not a good Muslim.
Muhyiddin had during a political talk in conjunction with the Padang Serai by-election, allegedly claimed that Anwar had abused his power as an MP, and was a liar and unethical individual who had betrayed the people’s mandate while also pocketing RM15 million in salary in his post as the economic adviser to the Selangor government.
His speech was also posted on TikTok by user @beritakini8, and has since gone viral. – The Vibes, December 21, 2022
