Priority seats on public transportation are meant for the elderly, the disabled, pregnant women and commuters with small children. While many people sit in priority seats prepared to give them up if someone from the designated group arrives, not everyone seems to follow this unspoken rule.
Rapid KL took to their Facebook page to urge a passenger to be more considerate after she was caught hogging a priority seat for her bag.
They wrote, “Your bag must love the seat, but don’t forget —there might be someone around who needs it more. Let’s be considerate when using public transport, okay?”
In the images showcased, the woman can be seen sitting at one of the priority seats while her bag takes up another priority seat. Meanwhile, many other passengers could be seen standing around her.
Many have since taken to the post to urge passengers to call out such behaviour when they see it. Some also encouraged Rapid KL to install speakers so that they too can call out passengers behaving untowardly.
“It’s time for RapidKL to install CCTVs with speakers in priority areas. One sound from the speakers would make her jump!”
“Do the CCTVs in LRTs and MRTs not function? Can’t they ‘sound’ this makcik?”
Let’s all remember that the seats in public transportation are meant for people and not inanimate objects.
