Langkawi, also known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Permata Kedah), is a duty-free island and an archipelago of 99 islands. It is an administrative district of Kedah, with Kuah as its largest town.

The most popular beach and tourist area on the island is Pantai Cenang. Despite being an island at the northernmost point of Malaysia, Langkawi has good transport connections, including an airport with regular flights from Kuala Lumpur and other destinations in Malaysia.

A common travel method is to visit Penang first and then take the ferry across to Langkawi, which typically takes 2-3 hours, but weather conditions, especially during the monsoon season, should be considered. As of 2020, the ferry from Penang to Langkawi has ceased operations and has not yet resumed, making air travel the only option to reach the island. Once in Langkawi, transportation around the island is convenient via Grab (taxi app) or public taxi. Alternatively, motorbikes are available for rent, offering more flexibility, while renting a car provides greater freedom and the ability to cover more distance. There is a diverse selection of restaurants across the island, with Malay and Middle Eastern cuisine being the most common. Recommended dining options include Yasmin Syrian Restaurant, The Loaf Bakery & Bistro, Arts Cafe Langkawi, The Kasbah, Haroo Korean Restaurant, and the night markets. Langkawi offers a variety of accommodation options, from staying near Cenang Beach for proximity to restaurants, to the north coast for a more secluded experience away from the crowd. Pulau Langkawi, the largest of the 99 islands in the Langkawi archipelago, is characterized by lush green hills, beautiful white-sand beaches, and clear waters, offering numerous activities and attractions, such as local fare at the night markets, visits to breathtaking waterfalls, walk across the sky bridge, and exploration of the underwater marine park to observe aquatic life. Langkawi Underwater World is a popular tourist attraction, housing rare and beautiful creatures from around the world and being one of the largest aquaria in Malaysia. Visitors can book tickets to explore the diverse aquatic life within the six-acre aquarium, with options for Malaysian and non-Malaysian tickets and discounted prices for children aged 3 to 12 years. The tickets include visits to the Tropical Rainforest, Temperate, and Sub-Antarctic sections of the premises.
