How many of you rely on AI nowadays? Or in other words, how often do you open the AI application or website on a daily basis? AI has been a convenient tool that has undoubtedly helped human beings reduce burdens such as drafting emails, searching the web and even planning trips. However, it may not be a good habit, especially if you rely purely on AI without thinking twice or even doing your own homework.

Referring to Yahoo News, an American traveler recently faced a total disaster after relying on AI to plan her tread to Paris. Orit Ofri, a marketing consultant from Oregon, turned to the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT to help organize her trip to Paris, of which she was pretty happy at first due to the convenience it brought. Unfortunately, one of its recommendations was to visit the Musée d'Orsay on a Monday, which the museum is always closed on Mondays, and ChatGPT did not know about it.

She further added that that wasn't the only issue she had with the ChatGPT planned itinerary. She prompted the chatbot to provide her with restaurant recommendations within a 10-minute walk from Eiffel Tower but all of the results showed locations which were at least 20 minutes away by bus 11. Shockingly, this wasn't the only case happened on the only person.

Jonas Muthoni, an AI expert, also experimented with using ChatGPT to plan a trip to Kenya. The chatbot recommended visiting Masai Mara National Reserve during the peak of the Great Migration, which on the surface seemed like solid advice. However, it failed to mention that many roads in the area are nearly impassable during that season. As a result, many lodges were inaccessible. He then further added that this could be due to AI relying on outdated travel websites instead of real-time or recent updates that were available.

Similarly, another traveler Milton Brown shared his experience of asking ChatGPT for hotel suggestions and found that all of the options recommended were actually about 40% more expensive that other hotels of the similar quality nearby. He strongly suspects that these hotels were prioritized in AI responses because they had invested heavily in online content and keyword optimization, making them stand out more to AI based on how they were fed with information and trained on.
