A passenger onboard a train that derailed on Thursday (13 August) described the moment the carriages “jumped” off the tracks while he was travelling with his six-year-old daughter.
Two people were seriously injured and 18 others hurt when a train derailed between Haywards Heath and Lewes in Sussex. An investigation is underway to determine the “root cause” of the incident.
Speaking to BBC News following the crash, Rob Bradley said that his carriage “jumped upwards” as passengers got thrown forwards.
“The train kind of skidded for quite a while before it stopped.
“Only then, when we turned around, did we see the whole back of the train was open and smoke and dust were pouring into the carriage.”
