LG will be introducing the new UltraGear evo series of gaming monitors in CES 2026 that puts focus beyond 4K resolution: specifically, the three new models in this lineup all feature 5K/5K2K resolutions, in form factors like 27-inch Mini LED (27GM950B), ultra-wide (39GX950B), and large-format gaming displays (52G930B).

LG UltraGear evo Lineup For CES 2026

A standard 5K (5120 x 2880) has 78% more pixels than a 4K display (~8.3m pixels), which gets you sharper texts and bigger space for apps; however, running games on native 5K will be a problem. Similarly, 5K2K (5120 x 2160, ~21:9 aspect ratio) is effectively a wider version of 4K with 33% more pixels than 4K, so it’s extra work for GPU as well. To that end, LG took ideas from its TVs and brought in “5K AI Upscaling.”

Both the 27GM950B and 39GX950B, which is said to feature “on-device AI solution”, will support this feature, and the result is “5K-class clarity without the burden of GPU upgrades.” (It’s not like GPU vendors already have things like DLSS, FSR or XeSS to take care of this, right?) Besides that, you get features like “AI Scene Optimization” and “AI Sound”, the exact nature of which isn’t clearly described for now.

In any case, the lineup first includes the 27-inch LG UltraGear evo 27GM950B, a 5K Mini LED gaming monitor featuring 2,304 local dimming zones and reduced optical distance between the panel and backlight to minimize blooming effects (which creates the ‘halo’ artifact surrounding tiny-but-bright objects on-screen). Specs include 5K/165Hz & 1440p/330Hz DFR support, 1ms pixel response time, 1,250 nits peak brightness and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification.

Next up is the LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B, which features a 39-inch 5K2K OLED panel with 1500R curvature, DFR support (5K2K/165Hz & WFHD/330Hz), 0.03ms response time, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. In particular, this monitor uses LG’s Primary RGB Tandem OLED (aka 4th Gen OLED), which uses a 4-stack structure that enables more vibrant colors, better brightness, and reduced power consumption.

Finally, LG is introducing a new large-format gaming display called the UltraGear evo 52G930B, which again uses 5K2K resolution, this time at 240Hz refresh rate. Given its physical size (which LG says equates to a 42-inch 16:9 display in height), the monitor comes with a 1000R curvature to improve peripheral viewing. This model lacks DFR support like the other two model we just mentioned, but it does feature VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification for its color and brightness performance.

Pokdepinion: I don’t think monitors need built-in upscaling. We already have a ton of software-based solutions for that.
