Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has stepped up his pursuit for a new director of football.
Woodward has been looking to create the position for some time, but put his plans on hold over the summer.
The Mirror says he has now started up his recruitment drive again and wants former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to fulfil the role.
The Dutchman is currently CEO of Ajax in the Netherlands.
Woodward wants to hire somebody with connections to the Red Devils, having also spoken with Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher.
