Former striker criticises Blues, Liverpool and Villa after poor recent displays
Leroy Rosenior has delivered a blunt verdict on Chelsea’s recent performances, describing them as “awful” as the battle for Champions League qualification intensifies.
The criticism comes at a difficult time for Liam Rosenior, who is already under scrutiny following his appointment by BlueCo. After a promising start, Chelsea’s form has dipped, with consecutive defeats leaving their top-four hopes increasingly uncertain.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ FanZone, Rosenior did not shy away from criticising multiple sides in the race — including his son’s team.
“Very exciting and very nervous,” he said when discussing the top-four battle. “But Liverpool were awful. Villa were awful. Oh, and Chelsea were awful.”
He stressed that inconsistency across the contenders has left the door open. “One of them has got to grasp it. It’s there for the taking, and whoever can find some form will secure that Champions League spot.”
Chelsea’s latest setback came against Newcastle United, where another underwhelming display raised further concerns among supporters.
Tactical issues and missed chances cost Chelsea again
Despite dominating possession with close to 70% of the ball and registering 22 shots, Chelsea were undone by a single decisive moment — Anthony Gordon’s early goal, which proved to be Newcastle’s only clear opportunity.
Defensive frailties once again came to the forefront. Liam Rosenior later acknowledged problems with his pressing system, which allowed Joe Willock to break through the defensive structure too easily.
Even Gordon himself pointed out how exposed Chelsea looked, particularly in their man-marking approach.
Ultimately, a lack of concentration at a key moment proved costly. The result extended Chelsea’s winless run at home to three matches, dealing a significant setback in their pursuit of a Champions League place.
