Kota Kinabalu: The library continues to play a significant role in fostering reading interest among the people in Sabah, said Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

He said that in 2023, the target of the Sabah State Library for the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiative was to reach 1 million library users statewide.

"The Sabah State Library has exceeded its target, with 3,281,502 library usages or 328 per cent," he said in response to a question from nominated assemblywoman Datuk Amisah Yassin at the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Wednesday.

Arifin said that the target for reading promotion programmes in 2023 was 2,500, and the Sabah State Library successfully implemented 9,612 programmes, which was 384 per cent of the target.
