Liew commends World Plumbing Day initiative

Kota Kinabalu: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew commended the newly-formed Sabah Plumbers Association for its initiative in planning to observe World Plumbing Day on Feb 16 this year.

She said her Ministry will support this inaugural event from the perspectives of environmental cleanliness and protection.

Advertisement“It is a most timely move to raise public awareness of the importance of proper plumbing to save water and avoid leakage. The association is doing the right thing to educate the young on water conservation and other related matters, starting from the school bench.

“In this way, students will learn to appreciate the genuine need for responsible water use,” she said after a courtesy call on her by a delegation from the Sabah Plumbers Association led by its President Carmen Wong, Wednesday.

Read more Wong said the event’s programme will involve the participation of school children in a drawing competition which allows them to express their ideas about water cleanliness, conservation, and sanitation.

In his briefing, Event Organising Chairman SP Teo said World Plumbing Day is a global event celebrated every year on March 11 to highlight the important role of plumbing in health and environmental protection.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});For the World Plumbing Day celebration in Sabah, he said there will be two events on Feb 16 at the Sabah Hakka Complex – a plumbing expo featuring 45 stalls to promote their products and services in the morning, and a World Plumbing Dinner Night.

“We are inviting speakers from various government agencies and the private sector to deliver talks on related topics, as part of the programme,” Teo said.
