
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew is the special guest at the Chinese New Year Dragons, Unicorns and Lions Dance Festival and Cultural Village Exhibition 2024 organised by The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) on Jan 27.
She is invited as Special Guest at 2pm and to officiate the dance competition as the guest of honour at 7.30pm.
Liew expressed her support during a courtesy call by USCCAKK President Datuk Susan Wong and agreed to sponsor the annual Chinese New Year celebration which will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Liew also said her ministry would work with USCCAKK in organising various cultural activities to promote Chinese culture, and at the same time, stimulate the local tourism and the economy.
She also stressed that her Ministry would make sure the funds allocated to support local tourism activities would benefit Sabah tourism and the people of Sabah.
The State Government’s Chinese New Year Open House which will be held on the second floor of SICC on the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 10), from 10am to 2pm.
The fourth floor is designated as VIP hall for political and Chinese community leaders, whereas the second floor is open to the public with a capacity of 7,000 visitors.

Susan thanked Liew for her immense support and commended the minister for her outstanding achievements and care for the people, including the Chinese community.
“Christina is an outstanding female role model in Sabah,” she said.
The dance competition has attracted 20 teams, who will be performing street dance, belly dance, modern dance and cultural dance.
The champion would receive RM3,000 cash prize. The competition will start at 7pm Jan 27, with Liew as the guest of honour to launch the opening ceremony and give away the prizes.

The event will take place at the second floor of SICC on Jan 27 from 9am to 10pm. The full-day event includes Cultural Village Exhibition, Dragons, Unicorns and Lions Dance Festival, children’s colouring competition and dance competition.
This year, there would be more than 155 dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes from all over Sabah, who will be showing off their impeccable skills and techniques to the audience.
All 15 associations under USCCCAKK would be displaying their traditional costumes, food culture and heritage at the Cultural Village Exhibition for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of their roots.
The children’s colouring contest is hugely popular, including among bumiputeras.
She said the colouring contest is an opportunity for the younger generation to learn about Chinese New Year cultures.
