Kota Kinabalu: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) President Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah said he will not rush into making any decision regarding his political direction ahead of the coming state election.
“Any decision will only be made after the party’s top leadership finalises its official stance on cooperation and candidate selection.
“I think it’s best for us to wait for an official decision first. The leadership will decide and I will follow. I cannot act ahead of them,” he said.
He added that discussions on potential candidates for the Merotai state constituency are ongoing, with no official announcement by any party.
“Sabah PKR Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has not made any official announcement yet,” he said. PHRS is eyeing the Merotai and Kukusan constituencies.
According to Liew, Mustapha has confirmed that he is still awaiting a decision from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as well as further discussions between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and PKR’s top leadership.
“Once that decision is made, only then will I determine my political direction. I am a party man, so everything must have the blessing of the leadership.” He also commended GRS for setting a good example by establishing a special committee to handle political negotiations among its component parties.
“GRS is very disciplined and has a committee entrusted with negotiations. So until a final decision is made, I will not make any move,” he added.
At the same time, Liew stressed that PHRS is not a “seasonal party” that only becomes active during election.
“PHRS has been active for the past three years,” he said.
