Liew to defend Tawau as PKR unveils 10 candidates for Sabah

KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Christina Liew is set to defend her Tawau seat after PKR unveiled its 10 parliamentary candidates for the state today.

The other candidates are Thonny Chee (Kudat), Madely Modily Bangali (Kota Belud), Mustapha Sakmut (Sepanggar), Awang Husaini Sahari (Putatan incumbent), Dikin Musah (Beaufort), Datuk Sangkar Rasam (Pensiangan), Arastam Pandorog (Semporna), Noraini Abdul Ghapur (Kalabakan), and Apirin Jahalan @ Taufik Sham (Ranau).

However, PH has yet to announce candidates for Kinabatangan and Sipitang, as well as for Labuan.

This was announced by PH chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today.

PKR won Ranau in the 2018 general election through Datuk Jonathan Yasin but he later defected and joined Bersatu during the Sheraton Move in February 2020, which saw the collapse of the PH federal government.

“We have still one or two seats being discussed with the other PH component parties.

“I think they just agreed that Labuan should be returned to PKR,” he said after the announcement.

Other PH component parties in Sabah also unveiled their candidates today.

Upko will contest in Tuaran, Penampang, Libaran, Beluran, and Kimanis.

DAP meanwhile will contest in seven parliamentary seats – Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tenom, Papar, Keningau, Lahad Datu, and Batu Sapi.

PH-friendly Muda, meanwhile, will contest in Kota Marudu.

This leaves the possibility of Amanah taking on the Sipitang and Kinabatangan seats.

Sabah has 25 parliamentary seats, excluding one in Labuan. – The Vibes, October 31, 2022
