
Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) criticised the Madani unity government’s decision to lift the ban on Dr Zakir Naik’s public talks, warning that it risks threatens Malaysia’s unity and stability.
LDP Vice President David Ong questioned the government’s commitment to protecting Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-religious harmony.

“The decision to reinstate Zakir Naik raises serious concerns. His past remarks targeting non-Muslims have fuelled sectarian tensions, which led to his ban in 2019. “Allowing him to continue under the guise of free speech is irresponsible and dangerous,” Ong said in a statement.

The party praised Sarawak leaders for urging the state government to maintain its ban on Zakir Naik, citing Sarawak’s strong stance on religious tolerance under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
