
The building and equipment worth lakhs were damaged due to lightning that struck the main premises of the city police station here.
Nobody was reported to be hurt. Some police officials were shocked due to the fire and smoke emanating from electrical and electronic equipment installed in their rooms after the incident.
The power supply of the city also remained suspended in various parts, being supplied by different feeders. However, prompt and persistent efforts by maintenance staff resulted in resumption of the supply in
major parts of town by the evening.
Assistant Superintending Engineer Amended Kanuri acknowledged that the lightning had caused massive damages to the building and equipment, besides surrounding areas.
Kanuri appreciated that teams of maintenance staff had repaired almost all conductors, which were damaged due to lightning. “Though no transformer was burnt in urban areas, we will check for those connected with rural
feeders on Sunday,” Kanuri said.
SHO Pushpinder Singh Pappi said massive lightning had struck the police station building on Saturday, following which power supply to all rooms were disrupted.
He said cracks had developed in almost all building parts.
“The exact reason behind the incident and the loss incurred would be ascertained by experts,” said Pappi, maintaining that loss worth lakhs were caused in the lightning.
