Kota Kinabalu: Pupils of three isolated primary schools in Penampang can now study more comfortably at night after their schools received a donation of solar lights and fans from Solarland Bot Trading Sdn Bhd.

The three schools were SK Terian, SK Buayan and SK Longkogugon.

Company owner Gary Ling said a total of 14 units of solar lights were donated to the schools for the use of their students when studying at night.

“Two units of solar fans and four units of solar lights were for SK Buayan, while the other two schools respectively received two units of solar fans and two units of solar lights.

“This is our company’s first corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme together with Osimal Foundation,” he said during the handover ceremony of the items to the representatives of the schools at the company’s premises in Inanam Capital, here, Saturday.

According to Ling, he was moved to give the donation when he saw pictures posted by a teacher on the Facebook page of SK Terian showing how boarding students at the school study at night.

“When I saw the post, I immediately contacted the teacher to inform the donation. I want the students to study in a comfortable atmosphere so that they can focus more on their studies.

“These three schools have no electricity supply and at night they need bright light to focus on their studies.

“I hope this contribution can help not only the students in the three schools but also the teachers,” said Ling.

SK Terian Teacher Merlvin Simon Sikayu, who received the donation on behalf of the school, said they really appreciated the company’s gesture as it would not only help the students but also the teachers during the learning sessions.

“There is no electricity supply in our school, so we are depending on solar lights, especially at night,” he said.
