Lil Wayne has shared a statement with fans after he was a no-show on the opening night of his 20 Years of Carter Classics tour Tuesday in Maine.
Wayne — real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. — was scheduled to appear at the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor, Maine, at around 10:45 p.m., according to local media.
Fellow rapper 2 Chainz opened the night with a supporting set, before a DJ reportedly kept the crowd going until 11 p.m., when fans were told the show was over.
Breaking his silence on his Instagram Story the following day, Wayne shared that he was rescheduling the show.
“My Maine fans I’m so sorry… The show is being rescheduled to July 28. Please hold on to your tickets, they will be honored for the rescheduled date,” he shared.
“I ain’t s*** without you I can’t wait to come back and give you the show you deserve.” The rapper said that additional information will be emailed to ticket holders.”
A reason for his absence was not provided. The Independent has contacted Wayne’s representatives for further comment.
Waterfront Concerts president Alex Gray apologized to fans, calling it the first incident of its kind in the company's 251-show history, according to local station Wabi.
He said the venue had sought a curfew extension and done everything it could to ensure the concert went ahead.
Fans made sure to express their disappointment.
“Well, I came here for Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, and it was the most terrible experience. We drove over six hours to be here,” attendee Rita Sack told Wabi.
“Never mind the money. It’s like, moments in life and that was going to be a moment. [My friend] left her six-month baby for the first time. Like, it’s people’s time. Just don’t waste people’s time,” Sack added.
Meanwhile, on X, one gutted fan wrote: “Lil Wayne straight up no-showed our hayseed asses tonight in #Bangor, Maine. While I did really enjoy seeing 2Chainz it does leave a sour taste.”
“Lil Wayne f***ing no showed us in Bangor. What the f*** dude,” added another.
“Brother how do I see Kendrick and Kanye with no issues but Lil f***ing Wayne is the one to no show the entire concert,” wrote a third.
The next stop on Wayne’s 20 Years of Carter Classics tour is Saratoga Springs, New York, on July 2. Wayne will perform on more than 25 stops around the U.S. before concluding in Knoxville, Tennessee, on October 23.
