Limit sun exposure to three hours — health expert

MANILA, Philippines — A health expert advised the public to limit exposure to the sun to no more than three hours, as the heat index continues to rise across the country.

Zamboanga City Medical Center Safety and Environment Unit head Dr. Abdul Javar Esturco warned that prolonged heat exposure can cause heat stroke, dehydration, and long-term complications like kidney and cardiovascular diseases.

“Health is dynamic, and constant, uncontrolled stresses like heat can manifest in serious conditions over time,” Esturco said Thursday.

He noted that workers exposed to high-risk environments should take precautions, such as staying hydrated, taking regular breaks in cooler areas, and ensuring proper acclimatization to avoid sudden heat-related illnesses.
