Lionel Richie to return to the stage after ex-wife Brenda Harvey shared health update

Lionel Richie is due to make his return to the stage tonight, after his ex-wife, Brenda Harvey, provided fans with an update on the singer’s health.

The popular crooner, 77, was on stage at the Grand Casino in Minnesota, US, last week, when he had a dizzy spell and had to sit down in the middle of performing “Dancing on the Ceiling”.

It was then announced following an interval that the concert had to end early, and it was later reported that Richie had been taken to hospital after leaving the stage.

According to TMZ, the hospital visit was a precautionary measure.

Richie then pushed back his next two concerts on the advice of his doctors, with a statement saying he was “heartbroken” over the decision.

At the time, Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris told local media that Richie had been “a little dehydrated” but that he hadn’t noticed any health issues before the show.

Harvey, to whom Richie was married to for 18 years, posted to X this week to reassure fans that the singer was “OK” and would be back on stage.

“Thanking everyone for their concern!” she wrote on X on 26 June.

She later reshared a fan who replied to her post, commenting: “He is iconic. He does NOT need anyone telling him when to quit.”

Harvey and Richie were college sweethearts and married in 1975, adopting their daughter Nicole Richie together, before divorcing in 1993.

Richie is now set to resume his Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire tonight (Tuesday 30 June) in Pittsburgh, having postponed his shows in Chicago, Illinois, and Columbus, Ohio.

The Independent has contacted Richie’s representatives for comment.

The tour is scheduled to continue through summer, concluding in Austin, Texas, on 14 August.
