The Simpsons has revealed the new voice of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon after almost a decade of silence, after a white actor withdrew from the role of the South Asian character.
Grey’s Anatomy’s Sunil Malhotra made his debut on Sunday night’s (October 18) episode “The Revengening” alongside Apu’s wife Manjula, who is now being played by The Morning Show’s Janina Gavankar.
Apu had been seen but not heard since 2017, when Simpsons veteran Hank Azaria withdrew from the role following criticism over a white actor giving a stereotypical portrayal of a South Asian convenience store clerk.
