Diogo Jota’s children were mascots as Liverpool and Wolves honoured the late forward with chants, a shirt retirement and a planned memorial
TWO of Diogo Jota’s children were mascots at Anfield as Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers paid tribute to their former forward.
Jota, who was killed in a car accident in July, joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020.
In the first meeting between the sides since his death, both sets of fans paid their respects with a chant in Jota’s name on the 20th minute.
His sons Dinis and Duarte, along with other family members, performed the mascot role, while his wife Rute Cardoso was also in attendance.
Liverpool has retired the number 20 shirt worn by Jota during his time at the club.
The club also plans a permanent memorial at Anfield for Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who also died in the accident.
