Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is excited by the rebuilding of his midfield.

The Reds have completely overhauled Klopp's engineroom this summer.

Klopp said: "It was no secret that we were looking for somebody else as well, so we wanted a No.6 as well and we have it. The problem was, always, we knew we had Stefan Bajcetic. We think really highly of him but he was injured for five months. I think everyone who saw him last season was thinking 'my God! Where will this end up?'

"We always knew Mac Allister can play the position, we didn't know how much. We had the experience from last year - how much can you really create a situation where Macca can play the 6, because it only works when you are compact together. If you have big spaces and you can't protect the counter-attacks, it will not look great. We brought in Endo, he is top, a top player. He is more of a classic 6, maybe. And of course they are not all the options we had.

"I am not sure why it was the case but our midfielders were exceptional footballers, exceptional. But they sacrificed themselves for the expense of the team. You see James Milner playing football and it is like 'why don't you do that in a game?' and it's just because he wants to win.

"He will do the dirty work. When he comes on against Newcastle and he picks up a yellow card! Just coming on and knocking a player down, he will never change. He wants to win. Jordan Henderson was the same; Fabinho had his skillset, 'the Hoover'; Gini Wijnaldum, versatile like crazy; Naby Keita; Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - they all had their moments, sometimes injured but super players.

"It was not like this in the last year, people were injured and we didn't play particularly well but even in the good times, you told me we didn't score enough from midfield! That is fine but we created more from full-backs and stuff like this. So we have to build a team and we didn't do that yet. We still analyse and it's important to see things can work out but we don't know yet because players went to Bolivia in the mountains and we will see how they come back.

"But it is good and exciting. It's an exciting time that we really create a way to play football which is different to what we had before. In moments it has to be the same, or really similar but the main difference against Aston Villa was the way we defended, the way the No.8s defended, Curtis (Jones) and Dom Szoboszlai defended with Macca (Mac Allister), that gave us stability. And that's what we need so let's see where it will lead us to."
