Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward has moved away from doing a deal for Gini Wijnaldum this summer.

Reports had indicated that the Reds were prepared to bring the Dutch midfielder back to the club, a year after he left for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

However, Fabrizio Romano states that Liverpool are prioritising contract extensions for the remainder of the window.

They have secured Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay already, and are happy with their squad.

Romano added that any move for a midfielder would wait until next summer, when the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are out of contract.

The Reds are hoping to secure Keita, Joe Gomez, and Diogo Jota to new deals.
