Liverpool chiefs are baffled by criticism of Ryan Gravenberch from the Holland camp this week.
Both Oranje coach Ronald Koeman and U21 boss Michael Reizeger have blasted Gravenberch for pulling out of the U21 squad.
But the Daily Mail says Liverpool spoke with the Dutch FA to discuss Gravenberch's withdrawal, as he sought to settle in after Friday's arrival from Bayern Munich.
The midfielder also spoke to Reiziger to explain his decision.
But the decision was still blasted by Koeman, with Reiziger also expressing his disappointment.
