Liverpool hero John Aldridge feels Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves better press.
Aldridge hailed the midfielder's performance in victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.
He wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "Sunday's game at Anfield was a really strong performance from us. Aston Villa's handful of opportunities came from our own sloppiness and, even then, we were hardly put under any major pressure.
"Keeping a clean sheet was a big positive, particularly given how much we struggled defensively last year. Gomez and Matip haven't enjoyed much success together as a partnership in recent times, though they weren't helped by the midfield in front of them. On Sunday, you saw the difference the midfielders made: their closing down enabled those at the back to focus on the defensive work.
"I was especially pleased for Trent Alexander-Arnold at the weekend. He showed a lot of maturity during the game and revelled in his role of being captain at Anfield for the first time. The criticism he faced last season was absolutely relentless, so it is great to see him reminding everyone of the special player he is."
