Liverpool hero John Aldridge says Sunday's clash at Arsenal was lost at the selection table.

Aldridge felt manager Jurgen Klopp was wrong with his starting XI.

He wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "I don't know why Darwin Nunez didn't start against Arsenal. Liverpool obviously had a couple of key players out, but if you're fit enough to be on the bench, you're fit enough to start.

"I understand it's a squad game, but without him I just thought we lacked that little bit upfront. His movement and moving the back four about.

"We also missed Szoboslzai and Conor Bradley, and that had an impact. Trent's obviously a great replacement but he didn't look fit, and we had momentum. We had momentum with that team and that link-up down the right. The way they had been playing the last few games, they've been eight and nine out of tens.

"Without making excuses, that contributed to the way we played. It was a bad day at the office and we didn't deserve anything from the game. Too many players underperformed against Arsenal and that is what you get when you perform like that against a top team.

"Sometimes you can get away with a draw, but we didn't yesterday because it was far too many below-par. Some of them were really, really poor. You can carry one, sometimes maybe two at times, but no more than that otherwise you suffer."
