Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stood by his suggestion that Everton are the worst run team in the country.

The ex-Reds defender has often laid into the Toffees' management for their poor use of resources and firing of managers.

Everton have now sacked Frank Lampard after a run of results that sees them in the relegation zone.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher said: "I said on this programme six or 12 months ago, Everton are the worst run club in the country. It wasn't a flippant remark, I believed it.

"I'm not saying that as an ex-Liverpool player, I'm saying that as an ex-Everton fan.

When I made that comment, Everton got in touch with me and I actually admired it, almost being on the front foot trying to defend their club. I thought okay, fair enough, you say some things in the media and people come back at you, but I didn't think I was wrong then, and I'm not wrong when I say it now.

"Frank's gone - I'm saying he deserved to go, okay, but you've got a young, up-and-coming English manager, you've got a Champions League winning manager in Rafa Benitez or Carlo Ancelotti, you've got an up-and-coming manager, Marco Silva; Koeman has been around the world managing a lot of teams. When every club fails, you've got to look at the top. That's Farhad Moshiri, and it's a mess."
